Homes away from home: These cozy cabins aren’t far from D-FW

Check out these inviting escapes available just outside Dallas-Fort Worth or across the Oklahoma border.

Summer is winding down, and while a lot has changed since early spring, getting out of the house safely remains tricky. We recently showed you some places to responsibly get out and on the water around Dallas-Fort Worth for a day of fun and sun.

If you’re still feeling cooped up, a night or two (or more) at a cabin in the woods, on a lake, by a river or in the mountains could be just what you need.

If you want to unwind and reconnect with nature, check out these escapes just outside D-FW or across the Oklahoma border. For more details, visit the website listed for each location.

At only 140 to 200 square feet and with no Wi-Fi and limited cell service, Getaway cabins offer “a break from the city, technology and work.” Getaway outposts are about an hour‘s drive from 11 metro areas around the U.S. For Dallas, the closest is in the East Texas town of Larue, 35 minutes from Cedar Creek Lake and Lake Palestine. It’s also 40 minutes from Big Thicket National Preserve’s Beaver Slide Trail and the Wolfpen Hike and Bike Trail at Purtis Creek State Park.

The 40 cabins have one or two beds and can accommodate two to four people. Each tiny cabin includes a queen bed (with a second, lofted bed in each of the larger cabins), a cellphone lockbox, toiletries and kitchen staples (some provisions are also for sale), as well as a picnic and campfire area. Less than 10 minutes from Dinosaur Valley State Park, Paluxy River Bed Cabins offer a tech-free stay with “no stress, no telephone, no television, no interruptions, no problem.” Three of the four cabins have access to the river. Each of the cabins sports a private deck and hot tub, and every stay includes a continental breakfast. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is also a short drive away.
